The story of how I returned a briefcase full of money
in the middle of the park, but my curiosity led me to examine
it. Upon opening it, I found a large sum of cash inside. My first
reaction was disbelief. How could someone have left a briefcase with so much money in the park?
Then, I thought about what could have happened. Maybe someone had intentionally left it there for someone to find, or maybe it had fallen without them realizing it. I didn't know what to do, but I knew I had to find the owner.
As I walked back home, I found myself thinking about what I should do. I knew the person who had lost the money would be desperate to recover it, so I couldn't keep it. However, I was also afraid to turn it over to the authorities, as I had heard stories of how money turned in to the police could disappear.
Finally, after much deliberation, I decided that the best course of action was to try to find the owner myself. I knew it would be a difficult process, but I felt it was the right thing to do.
I started by reviewing the documents that were inside the briefcase. There, I found a phone number and an address. After thinking about it, I decided it would be best to visit the address in person.
When I arrived at the address, I discovered it was a small antique shop. I showed the briefcase to the owner and asked if he knew anyone who had lost something like this. He seemed confused, but assured me he would try to help.
After waiting a few minutes, he returned and told me he had spoken to a customer who had been in his shop a couple of days before. The customer was very grateful for my help in returning the briefcase and had offered to meet me at the antique shop the next day.
The following day, the customer arrived and introduced himself as the owner of the briefcase. He was a very successful businessman and was extremely grateful that I had found his briefcase. He told me he had been working on his laptop in the park and must have dropped it without realizing it.
He thanked me several times for my honesty and offered me a reward for returning the briefcase. I told him it wasn't necessary, that I just wanted to do the right thing. However, he insisted on giving me something as a token of his appreciation, so I accepted a small amount of money that I felt was fair.
I left the antique shop feeling very good about myself. I knew I had done the right thing and that the owner of the briefcase was grateful for my honesty. It was a small act of kindness, but it gave me a great sense of satisfaction and pride.
